Fashion

The entire 3 weeks I was in Japan, I saw 1 asian lady (who might not have been Japanese) with braids in her hair. If anyone knows why Japanese don't do braids, I'd love to know.

Fun

A picture of me with my maid at the maid cafe. They serve food with cute designs and cute names, and interact pleasantly. Depending on the package you pay for, they also give you a maid cafe souviner, take a picture with you, and sing a song just for you. None of them knew English so I got the whole show in Japanese. It probably would have been more fun if I understood them. They also had a million ways to try to upsell you. Ultimately, it strikes me as a commercial money grab with not enough bang for the buck.

I tried a cat cafe. It was an informal one, a single room in an apartment building, where the one lady had two of her own cats and two foster cats. She charged for photos, so no photos. The cats didn't seem interested in human interaction except for the owner. The only real attention I got from the cats was when I was feeding them their favorite snack, then they left me. After a heap of effort, I got one cat to play with a toy at the end of a string for about 5 minutes. I'm okay with supporting cat fostering, so it wasn't a total loss, but the juice wasn't worth the squeeze.

Stores mark when they are open and closed using Xs and Os.

Everywhere I went, Japan was obsessed with keeping trees from leaning and limbs from falling by propping them up with wood planks (mostly) or metal bars. You've probably noticed it in other photos I posted. My opinion is that their attempt to preserve natural beauty looks unnatural and unattractive. I prefer the methods of laissez faire and remove it if it's dangerous.

This supermarket offers devices specifically for scanning products as you put them in your basket so you can scan the device and pay quickly at the register, then you return the device. I assume there's a good reason they don't just have a phone app for doing the same thing.
